Black Bear Elementary is a small therapeutic school in Chicago, IL. Our school is a fast-paced and supportive environment with a common goal to provide specialized therapeutic and academically supportive services to help elementary-aged children grow and develop in all areas of learning.
Open position: Learning Support
Learning Support serves individual students and groups in the classroom and across the school.
What you will do
- Encourage a positive learning environment in each setting within the school.
- Show problem-solving skills and flexibility when instructional methods or materials need to be adapted.
- Deliver educational interventions designed by therapists and teachers to help students meet academic, life skill, behavioral, physical, social and emotional goals.
- Consult and collaborate with the academic and therapeutic teams about individual students.
- Provide, implement and support behavior management and crisis intervention.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in education, special education, early education or a related field (preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience in a teaching support role (required); 1 year of special education experience (preferred).
- High energy, willing to collaborate, flexible to change and able to think on your feet.
- Personable, playful and engaging, with a positive and patient demeanor and the ability to build rapport with children and their families.
- Able to organize and prioritize tasks in a dynamic, busy role.
