Employee Code of Professional Conduct (Faith’s Law)

Black Bear Elementary · 939 W. Wilson Ave., Chicago, IL 60640

Status: In review. Black Bear Elementary’s Employee Code of Professional Conduct policy is in review and will be posted on this page. Last updated October 14, 2026.

Illinois’ Faith’s Law (Section 22-85.5 of the Illinois School Code, 105 ILCS 5/22-85.5) requires nonpublic schools to adopt an employee code of professional conduct policy and to post it on the school’s website.

Under the law, the policy must:

  • Incorporate the Code of Ethics for Illinois Educators.
  • Incorporate the law’s definition of sexual misconduct.
  • Set expectations for professional relationships between employees and students, including boundaries that fit students’ age and development, with guidelines for transporting a student, taking or keeping photos or videos of a student, and meeting with or contacting a student outside the employee’s professional role.
  • Reference employees’ reporting duties under the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act and Title IX.
  • Reference required employee training on child abuse and educator ethics.

This summary of the law is general information, not legal advice. The school’s policy, once posted, is the controlling document.
